Dr. Thomas J. Byrd, M.D.
Byrd Eye Clinic
3677 Fort Street
Lincoln Park, MI 48146

Dear Dr. Byrd and Staff:

I heard about the Byrd Eye Clinic, or should I say I "overheard about the Byrd Clinic" while sitting in class. I couldn't help but to hear the wonderful accolades given by a former Byrd patient ( a classmate whom I had not yet met).

After class, I approached my classmate and explained that I had overheard her talking about the LASIK procedure and her experience with the Byrd Eye Clinic. She was ecstatic and eager to share her experience. Within a couple of weeks, I was on my way to Dr. Byrd's office. I live in Lansing, approximately 120 miles from the clinic.

During my initial visit, Dr. Byrd and his staff examined my eyes and thoroughly explained the procedure. Because I had already progressed to the point of needing bifocals, and due to my profession, (I am a full-time second year law student) Dr. Byrd explained that I would likely, even after surgery to correct my nearsightedness, need reading glasses. Dr. Byrd proceeded to fully explain the benefits and possible side effects of the procedure.

Well, ... the procedure was quick and painless. The day after surgery, my vision was better than 20-20. And I am happy to report that I still do not need bifocals. I have perfect vision. I am 43 years old and I've worn glasses or contact since I was 18. Needless to say, I am very, very pleased with the results.

Thank you Dr. Byrd and staff for the wonderful care and for ridding me of my glasses and contact lenses!

Sincerely,

Doris Winters (age 43)

Dear Dr. Byrd,

Here is my testimonial regarding LASIK.

The decision to have LASIK done was very difficult. I had the typical fears of blindness or worsening of my current vision. As a medical professional operating the heart-lung machine my vision is absolutely critical in monitoring an open heart patient during surgery. It is also for this reason that I decided to attempt to improve my vision and get rid of the daily hassle of glasses. One other reason for my need to see without glasses is that I am very active in outdoor recreation. I like to ski, shoot skeet, hunt and go white water rafting. All of these activities are not very friendly to a pair of glasses.

The surgery itself was painless and quick. I was impressed with the clinicians in that they were very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. As the President of a medical service company I am acutely aware of both quality and outcomes. Upon review Dr. Byrd's outcomes are excellent and that was the deciding factor for me to have LASIK done by him.

Once the surgery was completed my vision was blurry but slowly cleared over the next eight hours. I went to bed early that evening and woke to the most amazing sight. I could actually read the alarm clock for the first time in eighteen years! I have been so satisfied with the operation that I have recommended co-workers to have their LASIK done at the Byrd Clinic.

Sincerely,

Dear Dr. Byrd,

I would be happy to share my experience with prospective patients.

I am a flight attendant and in my work as well as my life, my vision plays an important part. After 43 years of glasses and contact lenses I am finally free. I had severe myopia and so very thick glasses and now have the pleasure of living with 20/25 vision. From time to time I still reach for my glasses when I get up in the morning but I am soon reminded that those days are now behind me.

The procedure was fast, the cost acceptable and the results amazing.

Sincerely,

Claire Conway (age 50)

1 ½ years ago, I asked my mother’s ophthalmologist who she would let operate on her eyes for near-sightedness. She said only Dr. Byrd. I made an appointment with him and for one year he tried several things to help me continue to wear my contacts. He was in no hurry to operate. After one year, I asked for LASIK surgery again, and because nothing had worked, he agreed to the surgery. He tested over and over before and after the surgery. The surgery was quick, painless, with only local anesthesia. I was completely comfortable before and after. Because I had monovision contacts, I wanted the same monovision so I wouldn't have to wear any glasses for distance or for reading.

I cannot recommend Dr. Byrd, LASIK surgery, or monovision enough!

It's been great, there is great comfort from being able to see all day and all night, swimming or during any activity.

I am pleased ot offer these comments for Dr. Byrd and the Byrd Eye Clinic on LASIK.

I have been severely nearsighted and have had to wear glasses since the fifth grade.  I never had much luck with contact lenses as I generally found them uncomfortable from my dry eyes and problems with hay fever and allergies.

I underwent LASIK in May of this year and am very pleased with the results.  I was able to see well almost immediately, and by the time I got home, I was seeing great!  I experienced very little discomfort following the surgery, and the next day I was able to drive myself to the office.  Both Dr. Byrd and his refractive coordinator, Kathy, spent a great deal of time with me prior to the surgery, answering all my questions and providing me with excellent information on all aspects of not only LASIK, but other refractive options as well.  I was highly confident in Dr. Byrd's surgical skills, especially since he is a corneal specialist and has been performing surgery for over 10 years.

Due to my age (48), I was informed I would immediately become dependent upon reading glasses if I chose to undergo complete "distance" correction, and this did occur.  As a matter of fact, I had to stop and buy some "cheaters" on the way hom from my one day post-op appointment!  However, I find this a minor inconvenience compared to the benefits of being able to see without regular glasses for all my daily activities, including driving, swimming and going to the movies.  Maybe the best part is getting up in the middle of the night without having to fumble for my glasses.
