Dr. Jamie Beckman DO, MS is a Glaucoma and Anterior Segment surgeon who originally is from Rapid City, SD where he graduated from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Art in Percussion Performance. He then graduated with a Master of Science degree in Physiological Sciences at the University of Arizona where he successfully defended his thesis “Morphology of the Retina in Early Diabetes”. Dr. Beckman then went to medical school at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine – Carolinas Campus in Spartanburg, SC where he graduated as a member of Sigma Sigma Phi Honors Society. During medical school, he was Class President and then schools Student Government Association President. After which he was then elected to the highest position an osteopathic student can hold, National Chair, for the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents which presides over all osteopathic medical students.
After medical school, he then went on to his transitional year internship at Beaumont – Dearborn and completed his ophthalmology residency at Beaumont Health – Taylor where he was the Chief Resident in his final year.
Dr. Beckman then completed one of the most coveted Glaucoma and Advanced Anterior Segment Surgery fellowships in the world at the University of Toronto. During this time, he trained with Dr. Ike Ahmed who is well known as an innovator as well as a glaucoma and anterior segment surgeon who has been deemed the #1 most influential ophthalmologists in the world.
Dr. Beckman expertise lies in microinvasive glaucoma surgery as well as bleb-based glaucoma surgery. He also performs complex cataract surgery, lens exchanges and repair of the iris. Dr Beckman holds special interests in glaucoma research as well as innovation in cataract and glaucoma surgery.
In his free time, Dr. Beckman enjoys spending time with his wife and family as well as his dog, Maverick. He also enjoys fishing, hunting, South Dakota State Football and minor league baseball.
